McLoughlin House provides its visitors with an enriching education about Oregon City and Oregon itself. Would definitely recommend visiting this historical home.

I had a customer to visit in the area and decided to visit the John McLoughlin Home location, which had been moved a bit from the original location. I was thrilled to find the home and property in very good shape. It has been lovingly cared for. John McLoughlin was a Great Man with a Great Vision for Oregon. He was kind and generous and got along well with the natives. He married a Native by the name of Marguerite. She and her husband John helped many people who were coming to Oregon to settle. John McLoughlin also got in trouble with the Hudson Bay Company because he gave many, many settlers supplies which they couldn't afford, nor did they ever repay. His heart was generous so he got fired from Hudson Bay, but no matter, he made a name for himself and is the Father of Oregon. He was also a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Oregon City, before it was built at the present location. The Church Hall has a painting of him on the side and is not far from the McLoughlin House. He and his wife were originally buried at the Church Cemetery, which was later moved on site of McLoughlin House. The Barclay House is next door. Dr. Barclay was formerly Mayor of Oregon City, and was a good friend of John McLoughlin and was a Physician, first Coroner of Oregon, and Superintendent of Schools. NOTE: There is a Tunnel behind the McLoughlin home and if you go through that Tunnel you'll find a small Falls. You can walk down the expanse and look for a park nearby, but I think it would be better to drive to the park. Look it up on the maps area.
