Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead celebrates farming in the early 20th century. Replica buildings include a one-room schoolhouse, Native American dwellings, a town area with a general store and bank, as well as a fishing pond. Kids can interact with some of the 200 animals--feeding goats a bottle and casting a line into the lake are favorite activities. Don't miss the dairy barn, where you can try your hand at milking (and if you're lucky, you'll see a live milking demonstration). A nature trail winds through the farmstead and sculptured gardens designed for kids. Adults may like to tour the woods on a horse-drawn wagon ride, while kids can enjoy a pony ride. • Childhood memories are made here. When I reflect on my mom taking me and my brother to this once small petting farm, I realize this is where my love of a hands on experience at every zoo I've visited in my life sparks from. I was ecstatic, even on one of the hottest days of the summer, to revisit and share the experience with my daughter, niece, and nephew. Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead has more than doubled in size since I was a child, and has more than quadrupled in charm. This is a nice local spot to bring children to learn how to milk a cow, feed the chickens, bottle feed a goat, and take a fun hay ride.
  • Farm experience, relatively inexpensive. Almost better than going to the zoo. Many hands on activities for children. Tons of animals to pet and learn about. Fish weren't biting much today, but we did at least catch one. Feeding the pygmy goats was the highlight for my kiddos. Definitely will return!
