Horseshoe Bend, Page

4.8
Horseshoe Bend is a natural wonder famous for its striking contrast of water against red rocks. Just as its name suggests, the bend is a horseshoe-shaped curve cut into the rocks by the Colorado River, located just 6 km (4 mi) southwest from the town of Page. You can take a raft or helicopter tour or hike to the bend over a fairly short but very steep and rugged trail, often made more difficult by excessive heat. If you do choose to walk across this challenging terrain, be sure to wear rubber-soled shoes, light clothing, sunglasses, and a hat. To avoid dehydration, drink lots of water and make frequent stops as you hike to the scenic overlook above the meandering river. • From this point you have a quiet area around the bend of the canyon. Despite fences are everyone goes there anyway besides to take pictures. We are at the end of the afternoon gone and then it hit so bad in terms of crowds. You should be a stroll on a hill with sandy path to get there but it looks like they are a path to the asnleggen.

  • Worth seeing, this really is stunning. I’d recommend going with horse shoe slot canyon tours so you don’t have to walk in the heat or share the view with 300 people. They offer transport, water, a real...  more »

  • Fantastic views. It's entirely breath taking. It's a good 20-30 minute hike from the parking lot, but it's an easy incline that anyone could do. Bring plenty of water and a hat - it gets pretty darn hot and there is no shade or water along the way. On the downside, parking is absolutely miserable. The lot is very small for the amount of people that visit. Do not park on the side of road, we saw people getting towed. Bathrooms are available in the parking lot. Free parking and attraction.
  • You couldn’t ask for a better place to get a killer shot of the horseshoe. Mild hike to a really beautiful scenery. I have done it several times, at different times of the year. Never a disappointment for me. In the evening before sunset it tends to get busy, I will say human kind still rocks! People will help take pics and will ask if you could assist in taking a pic for them. It’s a great place to be. Everyone there is looking for a great memory.
  • It's beautiful, but too crowded. In fact, I feel like I now know why there are so many pictures of people's feet hanging over the edge... Because it's the only way to get a picture there without being photo-bombed! I would definitely suggest you either go early in the morning or late in the evening. Sunset might even provide some nice pictures. Otherwise, go to check it out, but don't expect to be able to enjoy it or get a good photo, because you may as well be at a theme park. *Note: A warning sign says wear a hat, take at least 1 liter of water, and don't wear sandals. I literally did the opposite in all 3 cases and was fine. In fact, we didn't take any water at all, but we were in and out in about 30 minutes. Partly because we had other places to go and partly because the press of the crowd was getting overwhelming and I was ready to get out of there!
  • Awesome free roadside attraction on your way to our from antelope canyon. There's one mega hill to walk up but otherwise the trail is very easy. It's super popular unless you get there very early but then the shadows affect your photos. It's really a must see. The water off the Colorado River is beautiful here.
  • It has a wonderful view. Carry some water bottles along when you walk the trail head. It gets tiring and it was pretty hot when I visited. Worth the view though. Make sure you don't climb on rocks. It can get riskier. Good photography spot too. Pretty good parking space but can get full anytime. So go a bit ahead of time.
