Tahquitz Canyon
Inhabited for thousands of years by the Cahuilla tribe, Tahquitz Canyon remains part of the tribe's legacy and is now overseen by the tribe's Agua Caliente Band. Walk the 3.2 km (2 mi) hiking trail through the canyon to Tahquitz Falls. The falls collect in a shallow pool you can wade through. The water also feeds an oasis of palms and desert growth that lines the trail. If you hike to the falls, bring drinking water, sunscreen, and a towel to dry your feet after wading. Make Tahquitz Canyon a part of your Palm Springs vacation plans using our Palm Springs visit planner.

This hike was the highlight of our entire amazing weekend in Palm Springs! Located just minutes from our rental, we were shocked to find such a hidden gem back there. We went at 8am in January and the temperature was comfortable and shaded until the end of the hike. Lots of stone steps, but very stable and not a steep incline. At no point did I feel nervous or unsteady. Was thrilled the waterfall was flowing - what a beautiful site! We were in awe of the red rocks and vastness of the entire Canyon. Even as it got a little more crowded, it was so peaceful. We took our time and let it all sink in! We spent about two hours there, but could have done it in an hour if we wanted to. A little pricey at $15 each (compared to Joshua Tree being the same cost for the day) but completely worth every penny!

There’s beautiful views throughout the whole trail! Just watch out for the thorny bushes on your way back down. They also have a great selection of walking sticks they lend out for a smoother hike. It costs $15 to get onto the trail and you MUST bring a LITER of water or you will have to purchase it there for $2 per person (they will not let you get on the trail if you do not have enough water).
