  • Windy roads, massive trees, hidden valleys, picturesque vistas, multiple campgrounds and a network of trails make this mountain range a great adventure for the fit hiker or relaxing camper. The summer temperatures are 10-15 degrees cooler than at lower elevations and the giant trees provide ample shade. Make sure your car is properly hydrated and you backseat passengers are not prone to car sickness because it's a steep and winding road.
  • We chose this as a last minute day hike spot on a hot day. We drove for about an hour from San Diego. It was totally worth it. Need to pay 10$ per vehicle. The staff at the visitor center suggested a loop when we them we had about two hours. The loop was 5+ mile. Very little elevation change (less than 500ft) and was amazing. We got what we had wanted. A nice shade cover for most of the loop and a walk in the forest kinda trail. Highly recommend this for summers to beat the heat.
