Shell Island, Panama City Beach

#4 of 12 in Parks in Panama City Beach
Island · Nature / Park
One of the state's most well-preserved and wild barrier islands, Shell Island stretches for nearly 11.3 km (7 mi) along the Florida coast. Home to a wide array of native creatures, including several rare and endangered animals, the island will give you the chance to spot sea turtles, crabs, seabirds, and more in their natural habitats. Hit the waves, bask on the white sand beaches, or explore the lush surroundings. While half the landmass belongs to the U.S. Air Force, the rest, St. Andrews State Park, is accessible from the mainland via a water shuttle that runs regularly. Keep in mind that the island is a pristine, natural environment without facilities like restrooms, concession stands, or garbage cans.
