One of the state's most well-preserved and wild barrier islands, Shell Island stretches for nearly 11.3 km (7 mi) along the Florida coast. Home to a wide array of native creatures, including several rare and endangered animals, the island will give you the chance to spot sea turtles, crabs, seabirds, and more in their natural habitats. Hit the waves, bask on the white sand beaches, or explore the lush surroundings. While half the landmass belongs to the U.S. Air Force, the rest, St. Andrews State Park, is accessible from the mainland via a water shuttle that runs regularly. Keep in mind that the island is a pristine, natural environment without facilities like restrooms, concession stands, or garbage cans. We 100% recommend visiting Shell Island! The water is absolutely stunning, crystal clear, beautiful teal-blue, and calm. The beaches are white sand and so soft. We didn't get to explore as much as we'd had hoped, due to limited time, but are incredibly glad that we got to enjoy the short couple of hours that we did get. Great for snorkeling. We bought tickets for a 15 minute boat ride to the island. There was also a food boat with nachos and such while we were there,, though not sure if they're always there. If you're visiting the area, put this on your list!

Beautiful place. First you have to go to St Andrews Park. There are good beaches in the park, but you can enjoy a different kind of beach if you go to Shell Island. The fare is a bit expensive, but when you get to the island by boat, that thought disappears. However, since there are no auxiliary facilities on the island, each person has to take care of the toilet and food. The island is beautiful, but I think it is expensive to come back. The bathroom is also the most disturbing factor.
