Pass through centuries of American history at Pecos National Historical Park. Tour the remains of Indian pueblos, evidence of some 400 years of settlement here by Native Americans, who traded pottery for copper and seashells. Look for the remains of a church built by Spanish explorers, who went on to occupy the area for 200 years. Continue through the park to see the Civil War battlefield where Confederate and Union troops clashed at the Battle of Glorieta Pass. Stop by the visitor's center beforehand to receive maps and a full history on the rich park. Bring plenty of water. • This park exceeded our expectations. We visited the park after a day at Bandalier which I thought could not be beaten. We purchased the self guided tour ($2) which is worth its weight in gold...

  • This is a great spot for a short hike, where you can learn a bit of history in a very scenic setting. Kids enjoy climbing into the kivas.

  • Awesome place! Really awesome! We have visited many national parks and historic sites. The Pecos National historic Park is one of the best maintained Parks we've ever been to.not only are the structures themselves really well preserved and very interesting but the land surrounding is pristine and an easy height for families. The rangers that run this park are really priceless. They did such an awesome job of welcoming everyone and even had time to work with our kids on completing the Junior ranger badge worksheets. We will be coming back to visit this site for years to come.
  • A beautiful park with historical significance and interesting background of Hollywood celebrity support. Very enjoyable day and relatively easy walk through a beautiful area with a lot of interesting ruins. Highly recommend.
