Happy Cow Creamery is a family-owned dairy farm in Pelzer, South Carolina that bottles and sells its own milk on site from the farm's closed herd of grass-fed Holstein cattle. The creamery's whole milk, buttermilk and chocolate milk is sold in the farm's on-site store and through grocery, convenience and country stores in Upstate region of South Carolina. The milk is not homogenized and is low-temperature pasteurized and inspected by the State of South Carolina.Use our Pelzer day trip planning website to add Happy Cow Creamery and other attractions to your Pelzer vacation plans.
The dairy is noted for owner Tom Trantham's system of rotating pasture feeding dubbed 12 Aprils.
For this innovation, Trantham was awarded the first Patrick Madden Award for Sustainable Agriculture in 2002 by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES).

A great roadside stop! I have stopped here 3-4 times to take a break from driving between SC and GA. It is very low-key. There are dairy cows, picnic tables, and a small grocery store that sells ice cream, cheese, dairy products, pickles, and other local products. Kids seem to love it. FYI, restrooms are Port-A-Potty.
We took a tour for my son's field trip and learned quite a bit. I love how they treat their cows and they don't use pesticides. The staff was all great the milk was very good even though I'm not a huge milk fan. We bought all 3 milks. I never thought I'd like strawberry milk bit out was so good. I made a little ice cream out of it and it was so good. I also love the little store they have there. It has a lot of stuff including fresh produce, honey, tons of jarred food items and of course milk and some cheeses.
