Active to this day, Pensacola Lighthouse and Museum stands over 12 m (40 ft) tall and is one of the tallest and oldest lighthouses on the Gulf Coast. Climb the 177 steps of the lighthouse, which was built in 1825, and observe sweeping views. In the fully restored keeper's quarters, constructed in 1869, you can explore the museum and pick up a quirky souvenir. You can decide for yourself if the lighthouse is haunted on a ghost walk tour. Get an eye-level view of the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels' practice as part of a tour of the lighthouse that allows an up-close view of these aerobatic jet pilots. I live in Pensacola but I have never been to the Lighthouse! What an experience. The guide at the top gave so much information about special events when the Angels fly over and how you can be at the..... more »
Great place to go while in Pensacola. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Safety is also a main priority there. Make sure you wear shoes with a backing. I certainly recommend tennis shoes because of the steep steps. It took us about 30 minutes to climb to the top, take a few pictures, embrace the view, catch our breath, and go back down. The museum took about 20-30 minutes. Your time spent is based on you and the size and interest of your group. There is also a small play area. I will certainly be going back with my family next time. They price I believe was $4.00 for military (active duty member, retiree, or veteran) and $7.00 for all others. So to clarify, if you are AD and you bring your dependents, you will pay for one AD entry and $7.00 for each dependent. Lastly, if you don’t plan to climb the lighthouse but want to enter you still have to pay the entry fee to go beyond the gift store. There are places for you to have a seat while you wait on the other side.
I really enjoyed both the lighthouse and the museum. The climb was challenging but not terrible and as a plus the blue Angels did a show at the naval aviation museum across the street while we were there. Great visit all around
