Pensacola Naval Air Station, Pensacola

4.7
Home to the National Naval Aviation Museum, Pensacola Naval Air Station serves as the main training base for all U.S. Navy, Marine, and Coast Guard pilots, including the elite Blue Angels. The Blue Angels practice their precision flying skills directly above the base; check the website in advance for practice schedules. At the National Naval Aviation Museum, you can view over 150 restored aircraft, including the NC-4, which holds the title of the first plane to cross the Atlantic, and the rare SBD Dauntless Bureau Number 2106, which fought in the Battle of Midway. Admission, parking, and guided tours by foot or by trolley are all free. • I was stationed here in 1981 for Temporary Attached Duty with the Navy. We called it the Big Blue Resort. Those A4 Sky Jockeys over at the VT-4 Squadron were party animals! We would drink at night, fly in the morning. It was insane. Best time of my life hanging with the Blue Angels pilots and student pilots. It was another lifetime. Oh yeah, I forgot. The best place to stay was in Gulf Breeze on the water with my private entrance to the beach via a back door. Gulf Breeze Inn and Resort. It is probably not around anymore.
  • We always visit when we are in the area. Very friendly. Blue angels homecoming shows are phenominal! Great family fun and history. A big thank you to all the men and women serving our country.
