Popham Beach State Park is a public recreation area covering 605 acres (245 ha) on the Atlantic Ocean in the town of Phippsburg, Sagadahoc County, Maine. It is the state's highest volume day use State Park. The state park occupies a dynamic shoreline landscape that has created a peninsula between the mouth of the Morse River and the Atkins Bay portion of the Kennebec River. The park is managed by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.

  • My wife and I spent limited time walking on this beach a couple of weeks ago. There is a broad expanse of sand with a feeling of wide open spaces. It's isolated enough that we imagine the crowds are.....  more »
  • We spent three days at Popham Beach and loved it. The views are spectacular, you can walk to historic forts and at low tide walk out to a rocky island. It was a little chilly here in early October.....  more »
  • Get there early for parking on hot/busy days, and go at lowish tide to walk across the sand bar to the little island. Restrooms and changing areas are available and well kept.
  • What a lovely beach, you pay a small entrance fee, but there's a big parking lot, changing rooms and toilets. Take a look at the tidal times! The Atlantic Sea is very cold.
