Popham Beach State Park, Phippsburg

Popham Beach State Park is a public recreation area covering 605 acres (245 ha) on the Atlantic Ocean in the town of Phippsburg, Sagadahoc County, Maine. It is the state's "busiest state park beach." The state park occupies a dynamic shoreline landscape that has created a peninsula between the mouth of the Morse River and the Atkins Bay portion of the Kennebec River. The park is managed by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.

  • I was there off season, when dogs are allowed. It was very quiet on a weekday there, which was great. There were some kiteboarders and other dog walkers, but there was ample parking, restrooms, etc...  more »

  • Get there early for parking on hot/busy days, and go at lowish tide to walk across the sand bar to the little island. Restrooms and changing areas are available and well kept.
  • What a lovely beach, you pay a small entrance fee, but there's a big parking lot, changing rooms and toilets. Take a look at the tidal times! The Atlantic Sea is very cold.
