Create an itinerary including Camelback Mountain
Named for its peculiar shape, Camelback Mountain is one of the city's most popular and recognizable landmarks. Once a sacred site of the prehistoric Hohokam Indians, the mountain today features two hiking trails that ascend the 390 m (1,280 ft) peak: the Echo Canyon trail stretches 1.9 km (1.2 mi), and the Cholla trail covers the climb in 2.3 km (1.4 mi). Getting to the top will reward you with sweeping views of the surrounding landscape, however both trails are steep and difficult. For a more relaxed visit, enjoy a picnic in one of the mountain's recreational areas, where you might spy lizards, snakes, and birds. Pay special attention while walking, as many rattlesnakes inhabit the area. • Beautiful mountain that provides signs to tell about the mountain and all it's habitat. This is a must see.

  • Great fun climbing / scrambling up the mountain. Trainers are fine but hiking boots ideal. Few tricky bits but worth it for the views.
  • The hike was really scenic since the mountain is located in the middle of Phoenix. There is so much to see when you get to the top. You can easily get a view of the downtown Phoenix. This place also offers some of the best sunrise and sunset views. I would say that the hike was worth it. The only problem is that it’s usually very busy and parking can be problematic. That’s why it’s best to go early in the morning.
