Māhāʻulepū Beach is a beach on the southeast coast of the Hawaiian island of Kauai. It is two miles (3.2 km) long and goes from Punahoa point to Paʻoʻo point. The beach is separated into three different parts: Gillin's Beach, Kawailoa Bay, and Hāʻula Beach. Gillin's Beach, the center section, is known for petroglyphs that are carved into the rocks, though they are rarely exposed. Fossils of extinct birds have been found in sand dunes along the shoreline, including the Kauaʻi Stilt-owl (Grallistrix auceps), a flightless rail, and three species of goose. Close to the beach is the paleontologically important Makauwahi Cave.

  • This is a gorgeous beach that is somewhat out of the way so not too many people are there. The water is somewhat calmer as well so it's good for swimming.

  • This is one of my favorite beaches on Kauai, secluded, not a lot of people visit it because it requires a drive along an unfinished dirt road full of pot holes. The way Google maps tells you to go is not accurate. You need to go past the Grand Hyatt Resort & Spa golf course and turn left at the fork in the road. To the right takes you to CMJ Country Stables. To the left & access to Gillin Beach & Makauwahi Caves, you will have to hike down a dirt/sand path. The rocks can get slippery when wet & watch for twigs in the sand path. I suggest close toed shoes until you reach the beach & then switch shoes.
  • By far the best beach on the island. Mix of tourist and locals but definitely low-key environment. The people that come by on horses are not the nicest so maybe stick to your own.
