Māhāʻulepū Beach is a beach on the southeast coast of the Hawaiian island of Kauai. It is two miles (3.2 km) long and goes from Punahoa point to Paʻoʻo point. The beach is separated into three different parts: Gillin's Beach, Kawailoa Bay, and Hāʻula Beach. Gillin's Beach, the center section, is known for petroglyphs that are carved into the rocks, though they are rarely exposed. Fossils of extinct birds have been found in sand dunes along the shoreline, including the Kauaʻi Stilt-owl (Grallistrix auceps), a flightless rail, and three species of goose. Close to the beach is the paleontologically important Makauwahi Cave.

  • Super nice, non busy beach. Great for everyone but especially for kids. Water is shallow for quite a distance out so they can play away! Small fish all over the place and close to the Makauwahi Cave.....  more »

  • We've just been there today. The road is quit bad but the beach is beautiful and so is the surrounding scenery
  • As long as you get there before 6pm and leave by 6pm, this beach should be accessible- the access crosses private land and it seems they close it at 6pm and will then tow you if you aren't out. However I just visited it, May 23rd, 2019 around 1pm and we had no problem getting to it. The review below is accurate though, you need to go the way she describes, and the road is extremely rocky and pot-holed for like 3/4 mile before you reach the parking area for the beach. You will be rewarded with a mostly empty beach :)
