Housed in a former Masonic Temple, Portland Art Museum holds a permanent collection of more than 42,000 works of art from around the world. This museum was founded in 1892 with the goal of creating a first-class art museum accessible to all of the community. Now, the museum continues to honor this mission, offering educational opportunities and special programs for children and adults. Explore the permanent collection, which includes European, Native American, Asian, American, and modern and contemporary art, as well as photography and graphic arts. After admiring the artwork, head to the on-site coffee shop to refuel or enjoy the scenery in the outdoor sculpture garden. Worth a quick stop, especially for the native / indigenous people's wing, their collection of works on paper. Plan ahead so you get to those galleries first then see the other stuff after. more »
I had the absolute best time at the museum. I took a long lunch break and just explored all the exhibits. I felt so inspired and motivated. I need to go back now that the exhibits have rotated. It has a great cafe and just an utterly great way to spend an afternoon.
Great museum! There are many exhibitions from many cultures around the world. There was so much, I didn't even finish! If I'm in Portland again, I will definitely return. Plus there is a little cafe. I highly recommend.
