Portland Japanese Garden sits nestled in the hills of Portland, overlooking the city and providing a tranquil, urban oasis for locals and travelers alike. Designed in 1963, it encompasses eight separate garden styles and includes an authentic Japanese tea house, meandering streams, intimate walkways, and a spectacular view of Mt. Hood. In 2017, the garden created the cultural village, a place where visitors can immerse themselves in traditional Japanese arts through seasonal activities, performances, and demonstrations. Finally, visitors can relax and refresh while at the umami cafe. Here, visitors can experience the pairing of Japanese tea with traditional gracious, attentive service, and delicious edible delights. Portland Japanese Garden Reviews
We were probably a week or two too early to see all of the beautiful spring blooms. Still a nice calm experience. Not a huge garden so doesn’t take a long time to go through it. If you want to eat at ... more »
This place was amazing! Everything is so green, tranquil, and beautiful. The koi fish are magnificent. Every turn had a sight. Highly recommend. more »
Incredibly well designed, managed and maintained Japanese garden. I have visited hundreds of gardens in Japan and the Portland Japanese Gardens rank up there with the best. Admission is a bit pricey, but worth it (and the money is obviously well spent). The garden is arranged to highlight the changing seasons and is a great experience no matter what the time of the year or weather. (It is even a treat in the rain!). Allow a couple of hours to soak in the many aspects of this unique experience. Note; No food or pets allowed. Well worth a trip. Highly recommended.
This has to be one of the best botanical gardens in the United States. I visited today and was simply blown away with the entire place. I have studied landscapes and gardens my entire career and I can say this place is a true 'must visit' gem. The gardens are unmatched, the maintenance is near perfect, the woodwork and masonry details are incredible.
