The house known today as the John Paul Jones house was built in 1758 for Gregory Purcell, a sea captain and merchant. When built, the house was considered to be at the edge of downtown and was amongst only a handful of stately three story homes in the city.

  • Very good self guided tour. Good example of how house where in the 1700's. You go through the house in less than an hour.
  • I WANTED SO BAD TO SEE THE INSIDE BUT THEY JUST CLOSED BUT I DID PEEK IN THE WINDOWS AND IT LOOKS GREAT. LOVE TO TAKE TOURS OF OLD HOMES AND THIS ONE I BELIEVE WAS BUILT IN 1758
