  • What a beautiful place. You go to nearby Fort Knox, not the same one with the gold, and get tickets for the fort and the bridge tower. Take the elevator to the top observation room which is higher than the Statue of Liberty. There you have a commanding view of Bangor Maine and surrounding area. Watch the sailboats come under the bridge. Then take a tour of the fort. Be at the fort on Halloween for Zombie night if they are still doing it. Drive over the bridge and around to Bangor and have lunch at one of the waterfront restaurants and cruise the stores. Vehicles are extremely respectful of pedestrians.
  • Best river crossing option available on Route 1. Very similar to a bridge I have crossed many times in Toledo, Ohio, just more impressive. If you want to see the less impressive one in Toledo, it is north of town and is the best view of the City of Toledo. Classy and well maintained.
