Must see · Art Museum · Museum
Take in more than 80,000 works of art, including a 12th-century Japanese Buddha statue with meditation benches, at RISD Museum. This museum was founded in 1877 and has since undergone a number of renovations, including the addition of the Chase Center, built in 2008, which connects all of the museum's building via a glass bridge. The museum is linked with the Rhode Island School of Design and often features works from its alumni. While it houses art from around the world, the museum is perhaps most well-known for its French and American collections, featuring artists from Monet to Warhol. • This is truly and quite simply one of the most concise and well thought out collections of work I have ever seen. This museum is a treasure. There is always something new to experience there.  more »
  • We had a wonderful visit to the museum on a rainy Tuesday. Like other reviews have noted there are so many periods and mediums to enjoy. From classic statues to modern installations of multi-media...  more »
  • Small, but interesting enough. They have a little bit of everything, and it's presented somewhat originally. Honestly, the coffee shop in front was my favorite part. As for the art museum, I would expect a bit more from such a famed institution. I mean, it's never gonna be the Metropolitan Museum of Art, so why try to be that when NYC is only 3 hours away.
  • Very cool museum! Stumbled upon it while looking for things to do in Providence. Worked out that there is no entrance fee on Sundays! Lots of old (2000+ years) art, stonework, etc that is interesting. Also more modern art and as recent as 2018. Includes very well-known (Monet, Picasso, Degas, Pollock) as well as RISD student work which we very much enjoyed. Huge museum with stuff for anyone and everyone. Well worth the visit!
