Race Point Beach, Provincetown

4.7
Find crystal clear waters, sweeping sand dunes, and pure white sand off the beaten track at Race Point Beach. The beach gets northern sun all day long, so it's popular with sunbathers. The shoreline drops off quickly so it may not be ideal for casual swimmers, but upside of this is that you may see sailboats or whales close to shore. The beach is prone to big surf, making it a favorite for surfers. Be aware, this area is known for strong riptides and undertow--only strong swimmers should attempt time in the water here. • My partner hates being at the beach, so we agreed that I would only have accompanied and later returned to the hotel. But when she saw the show that loomed before him, well he decided to stay and wait for the sunset together! We arrived at 18 and there was nobody in the cabin where you usually find the ranger that seeks payment for access (I guess it was because they had finished the round). We walked the catwalk running through the dunes and we sat down to watch the show. Being close to the summer solstice we waited quite a bit (the Sun is "fooled" into the ocean at 8:20 pm) but the wait was pleasant: warm sun, soft breeze, few people in sight (and still quiet, which I particularly appreciated) . Some children were playing with water, but after a rainy day nobody has dared to take a bath, in spite of the sunset was beautiful and clear sea. In the distance there were some people who I think partying (maybe a barbecue?) surrounded by their 4 x 4, but they were really far apart so it would not disturb our peace. Marvel!

  • We spent hours collecting rocks. The beach that wasn't overcrowded and was clean. Saw many sea lions swimming along the shoreline.  more »
  • A great beach and a must see in P-town. We bicycled there, but there is a (pay) parking lot if you drive. I would recommend taking the bike path to Race Point. It was chilly when we went so we did not...  more »

  • I love this beach. Out at end of The Cape, sandy dunes, not crowed. Close to town. Lots of nature. Sandy beaches, open exposed Atlantic Ocean.
  • Beautiful beach! It is absolutely worth of driving couple of hours from Boston! Not crowded at all even on weekends and it is close to Province town with tons of restaurants and shops.
  • Great beach love the sand dunes. Too many rocks in water though
  • Very rocky but the waves are cool to the touch and I even saw some seals.
  • Hard to choose what is my favorite beach on the Cape. The Cape should be visited at least once in your lifetime.
