Maggie Malick Wine Caves is a veteran-owned, boutique winery in Northern Virginia, featuring 10-15 different varieties of cave-aged, award-winning, estate-produced wines and refreshing Sangria.

Visitors also enjoy outdoor patio seating that overlooks the 30 acres of vineyards and 15 grape varieties, several koi ponds and a 360-degree view of the valley's rolling green hills. We have live music on the patio during summer weekends.

The Wine Cave is located on 215 rolling acres in the shadow of Short Hill Mountain, near Harpers Ferry National Park, where Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia converge.

Wine-maker Maggie grew up in Washington State and joined the Navy, where she met husband Mark, a U.S. Navy pilot and, later, a commercial airline pilot. Today, when Maggie isn’t in the winery making award-winning vintages, she works as an aeronautical engineer. Mark is the winery’s grape farmer and a commercial vineyard real estate agent. Maggie makes the wine and Mark oversees production of grapes.

The Wine Cave tasting room and wine production facility actually is a modern twist on how wine was stored historically. Before the days of electricity and refrigeration, wine was kept in natural, underground caves because of their high humidity (which prevented evaporation of the product) and cool constant temperatures (perfect for the lengthy wine-aging process).

Maggie's Wine Cave is a man-made structure, covered in 4 feet of earth and grass. It provides a low carbon footprint and a unique wine-aging process for a Virginia winery.

  • Lovely grounds and friendly staff. The 'cave' is more of a sod covered tasting room which was under construction, but will probably look pretty cool when it is finished. Unfortunately, the wine is a bit rough (even by Virginia standards) and the sangria in particular tastes like some kind of jungle juice you would find at a fraternity party. If that's your jam, you will love this place, but if you are looking for a wine that doesn't taste like grape juice you might want to check elsewhere.
  • We tasted 10 Estate Wines (grapes grown at the vineyard) in the "Wine Cave" which is really more like a root cellar. All the wines were really good. We got to peruse the wine barrels, and saw more variety than any other vineyard; Minnesota, Missouri, Virginia, French, Hungarian, and more. We also saw the full spread of toast levels M TH, M+TH, M+, and nothing. They used the different barrels very well! They had just started construction on their new production facility and tasting room, and this place should be fantastic when that is finished.
