Showcasing seven lifesize dinosaurs overlooking the city, Dinosaur Park has been catching eyes since 1936. Initially gray, these iron and concrete giants were colored bright green and white in the 1950s. Most of them are meant to reflect fossils found in the area. See the models of Apatosaurus, Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Anatotitan, Protoceratops, and a nondinosaur Dimetrodon--an ancestor of dinosaurs. These all look somewhat goofy by today's standards, and are sometimes described as being from the Flintstones' world. Take in the 160 km (100 mi) view of the surrounding area from this overlook above the town. Arrange to visit Dinosaur Park and other attractions in Rapid City using our Rapid City trip site.

  • There were great views from the gift shop and views in all directions from the top of the hill. This is an attraction for little kids. We climbed the stone steps to the top for the view in all...

  • Dinosaur park features a few dinosaurs built as a Works Progress Admin project in the 1930s. The dinos are funky Americana. The views are terrific. Worth the trip.

  • This was fun for the kids. The gift shop was really good and had excellent prices. To see the dinosaurs you have to go up some stairs which are pretty steep so be prepared. The view from the top was really nice though. The dinosaurs are huge but in need of a fresh paint job. It feels pretty run down. It is free though so I can't knock it!
  • Really cool place to stop! There are several stairs since it's at the top of a hill so it's a nice place to stretch your legs during a drive. The dinosaurs are cool and there's also a gift shop/visitor center (though it was closed when I went). Nice view from the top and there's some benches as well. It's free and there's also a big free parking lot at the visitor center. I would recommend a visit!
