We had a wonderful experience for a couple of days XC skiing and staying in Little John yurt. It took us a little getting used to the ascents and descents of the area, but a great XC ski area. An area tucked into some old trees, warming hut, wonderful vistas. The little quaint homey ski base filled with rental equipment and gift shop is also staffed by a friendly and knowledgeable group. The yurt was awesome. Had everything we needed.

During the summer, the Red River Community Center has hiking here once a week. The leaders were nice and informative. The hike we went on was ~5 miles roundtrip. There are a couple of port-o-potties along the trail near the yurts. Once at the top, there were beautiful scenic views looking over the towns of Upper Valley and Red River. There were a lot of hills, and some of the climbs were tiring, but lots of flat and slightly downhill areas. It was a nice day, a little chilly at the beginning (morning) and while resting at the top. Bring a jacket just in case. I took 8 water bottles on the hike, but only ended up using 6. Overall, this hiking trip was a great family and community experience.
