The Maymont estate boasts a historical house museum, arboretum, formal gardens, wildlife exhibits, a children's farm and more. James H. Dooley, a wealthy lawyer and philanthropist, and his wife acquired the estate in 1886. After their deaths, it was bestowed to people of Richmond. Take a guided tour of the couple's Gilded Age mansion to learn about their lives and the times they lived in. In addition to the animals kept on the farm, a number of injured animals live here, including bald eagles, black bears, and American bison. If you would like to feed the farm animals, bring quarters to use in the grain dispensers. To visit Maymont on your trip to Richmond, use our Richmond trip planner.

Self-guided audio house tour was really interesting after watching The Gilded Age on tv. It was a torrential downpour so we did not get to tour the estate and gardens.

Beautiful piece of history. I visited the mansion with family based on a recommendation and I enjoyed my visit. The house itself is very dark and moody, but in a very historical way. Definitely recommend making a visit! Especially to see the beautiful Tiffany glass, it’s the highlight of the home.

Wow, such a nice day outing. This botanical garden is free to enter, has farm animals, several gardens, and much more. Saw ton of people taking wedding/senior pictures and having picnics. We arrived at 3pm on a Friday and the parking lot was packed but we were able to find the last one. I do believe there is street parking though. There are also public restrooms here. It's a hugh place so although there were a lot of people, we walked around freely without feeling crowded. If you enjoy botanical gardens, you'll be glad you check out this place.
