  • This was our first visit to Roan Mountain. We liked it very much. The Rhododendrons were just starting to bloom. It was cool and windy up at the clouldlands.

  • I have been to Roan Mountain State Park multiple times and have not had a bad experience yet. I went twice during the Winter season with snow on the ground and twice during warmer weather conditions. I went hiking inside the park and also on Roan Mountain proper. I received good advice on weather and road conditions as well as getting a chance to prepare for my adventures. The bathrooms are clean and the staff members are very friendly. The trails I have been able to go hiking on are well maintained by the Rangers. This park ranks very high on my list of favorite parks and natural places to spend my time and photograph.
  • This was a super cool experience. The view from the top of Carver’s Gap is incredible and breathtaking. The wind was a bit rough on the little ones so if you have children you’ll want to prepare for that. The hike isn’t easy but definitely not the hardest. The trail goes through a forest of fir trees. For a Florida native like myself who’s used to pines and palm trees it was magical. My oldest daughter described it as a mystical forest, and I have to agree. I kept waiting for an elf to jump out from behind a rock. The pics don’t do the area much justice. It’s worth the hike to see it in person.
