Carvins Cove Natural Reserve is a 12,700-acre (51 km2) city park in Botetourt and Roanoke counties, Virginia. Managed by the Western Virginia Water Authority and the City of Roanoke, it is the fifth-largest city park in the United States, and the second-largest city park managed by a municipality. Within the park's boundary is Carvins Cove Reservoir and also the main ridgeline of Brushy Mountain, which rises about 1200 feet above the lake's waterline.

    We brought our kayaks for a day at this beautiful, peaceful, clean lake. Rental Jon boats, kayaks and canoes are available with life preserver. Parking is well worth the $7. A knowledgeable person....  more

    This has been a favorite kayaking spot of mine for years. Wildlife is everywhere from deer to bears. Like the fact that only 10hp boats are allowed on the water. The guys that work here are very nice and helpful. I buy a pass every year and it’s worth it!!!

    So close to the city and so secluded and peaceful. I love hiking the trail to the reservoir. It is an easy hike and a lot of people bike there also. It is gorgeous. I took these pictures last May, breathtaking.
