The City Market Building in Downtown Roanoke, VA is an iconic historical building that has housed decades of entrepreneurs. Originally constructed as a meat market, the City Market Building has transformed with the times, but has always remained a center for economic activity and a hub for Downtown business. To visit City Market and get the most from your holiday in Roanoke, create itinerary details personal to you using our Roanoke visit site.
Most recently the City Market Building underwent a $7.9 million renovation, closing in 2010 and reopening in September 2011. Through the renovation the City of Roanoke sought to reinvigorate the aging building while maintaining her historical traits and eclectic appeal. The first floor and mezzanines received a facelift, with new kitchens, lighting, and exposed brick walls. The renovation reflects the meat market era with the clean white tiles and concrete floors, while a bright, open, airy central garden in the middle of the first floor provides a welcoming eating environment for dining patrons.
The third floor of the City Market Building houses a premier Downtown event venue, Charter Hall. Capable of holding up to 500 people standing and 250 people seated, Charter Hall is a well appointed room with sophisticated styling and state of the art amenities.
Call the City Market Building office at 540-986-5992 for questions about renting Charter Hall.

There are lots of great booths & little shops, and of course fresh produce and plants! And of course, great restaurants.

Centered in the market square, it's a relaxing place to just stop enjoy a variety of foods. From Caribbean to Chinese, Indian to American, it's a great place for something quick and easy.

Restaurants around the outside of the building are diverse, fun and of good quality. Worth visiting regularly. Local fare without vapid national chains. They save the location. Unfortunately, the inside court is sterile and an architectural flop. The old lively darker food court was far superior. The inside is a good event space, however. Don't hesitate to rent it for that.
