What it lacks in physical size, Seneca Park Zoo makes up for in exhibits, activities, and special programs. Encompassing a little over 6 hectares (15 acres), the zoo houses over 90 different species including polar bears, African penguins, sea lions, sandhill cranes, snowy owls, lions, baboons, and elephants. The zoo strives to educate and entertain the public; its interactive lessons about animal and resource conservation are designed to attract visitors of all ages. Be sure to visit the area dedicated to simple ways you can help protect the animals living in your own backyard. Check the online special events calendar and sign up for lessons and activities well in advance. It’s amazing that we live so close to such a great zoo! They have such an impressive variety of animals for such a small city and there’s so much for kids to interact with and play with. It’s a great.... more »

The zoo is undergoing a lot of changes so I understand why there are fewer animals and exhibits right now. I wasn't fond of the huge playground by the entrance. I didn't need to pay $48 for me and my 4 grandchildren to play on a playground, when there is a free one like it in Highland Park near my home. I have been to the zoo 3 times since the Red Panda exhibit was completed. I still haven't seen it. It should be more visible. There were 4-5 animals that weren't being shown today because their exhibits were being maintained. Maybe they should only maintain one at a time so we can see more animals at the zoo. After all, isn't that why we go to the zoo? Overall, there was a lot of walking to see too few animals. On a positive note: the giraffes and zebras were nice to see. The tram at the end of the zoo that takes you to the front of the zoo was a very welcome sight after all the walking.

My Family and I love the Seneca Park Zoo! We hold a annual membership which is definitely a great value, especially if you live in the area. They've done some great expansion projects in recent years that have made the zoo an exciting place to visit again and again. We love buying tram tickets upon arrival, walking the length of the zoo, and then riding the tram back up front at the end of the day. The zoo is definitely a gem in Rochester!
