City Museum, Saint Louis

4.7
#1 of 196 in Museums in Missouri
Built largely of repurposed industrial objects, City Museum calls itself an "eclectic mixture of children's playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and architectural marvel." Opened in 2010, the museum challenges guests to experience displays by feeling, touching, playing with, and climbing on them. Exhibits include Elvis Presley's travel trailer and an object claiming to be the world's largest underpants. Visitors looking for a bit of excitement can explore a maze of fake tunnels and caves, or slide down a chute that goes through ten floors. For panoramic views of the city and a ride on an old-fashioned Ferris wheel, visit the rooftop garden. Put City Museum into our Saint Louis trip planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • This place is definitely worth the visit. There are nooks and crannies everywhere to explore. Wear comfortable cloths and knee pads to best enjoy. I recommend drinking lots of water because you'll be adventuring so much you will need it. There is a restaurant on site with good food that's reasonably priced. There is also a place for adult beverages while the kids play; if your so inclined. Overall, I highly recommend the City Museum.
  • This may be the best place in town to lose your kids. Yeah, it's in a fairly rough neighborhood. But we didn't have any problems. My kids loved it. We spent most of the day there. The tickets are reasonable priced. The food there is good, and is also reasonably priced. Everywhere you look, there is an adventure to be had. Your kids will love it.
