City Museum, Saint Louis

#1 of 195 in Museums in Missouri
Must see · Specialty Museum · Museum
Built largely of repurposed industrial objects, City Museum calls itself an "eclectic mixture of children's playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and architectural marvel." Opened in 2010, the museum challenges guests to experience displays by feeling, touching, playing with, and climbing on them. Exhibits include Elvis Presley's travel trailer and an object claiming to be the world's largest underpants. Visitors looking for a bit of excitement can explore a maze of fake tunnels and caves, or slide down a chute that goes through ten floors. For panoramic views of the city and a ride on an old-fashioned Ferris wheel, visit the rooftop garden. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Saint Louis holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the City Museum and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • This place was awesome! I have never seen anything like this. I feel like you could spend weeks on end exploring every nook and cranny of this place and still not see all of it. It's great for kids and family, but it is easy to lose track of kids amidst all the places to explore, so just keep your eyes peeled for them. I plan to return as this was so unexpectedly fun!
  • It's just fun. Be prepared to walk lots of stairs and bear crawl so, don't wear your good clothes and or shoes. Lots of dark and tight spaces so, if that's not your thing, I would not recommend. You can easily lose your people if everyone doesn't want to go sliding. There's no maps to tell you where you're ending up. I loved it
