Gateway Arch National Park is an American national park located in St. Louis, Missouri, near the starting point of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

The memorial was established to commemorate:

the Louisiana Purchase and subsequent westward movement of American explorers and pioneers;

the first civil government west of the Mississippi River; and

the debate over slavery raised by the Dred Scott case.The national park consists of the Gateway Arch, a steel catenary arch that has become the definitive icon of St. Louis; a park along the Mississippi River on the site of the earliest buildings of the city; the Old Courthouse, a former state and federal courthouse where the Dred Scott case originated; and the 140,000 sq ft (13,000 m2) museum at the Gateway Arch. At 91 acres (36.8 hectares), it is the smallest national park in the United States.

The immediate surroundings of the Gateway Arch were initially designated the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial (a national memorial) by executive order on December 21, 1935. The Gateway Arch was completed on October 28, 1965; the area surrounding it was redesignated as the "Gateway Arch National Park" (a national park) in 2018. The park is maintained by the National Park Service (NPS).

  • It is an awesome but small National park. You can tour it in one day. Other cool places around it downtown.

  • An amazing National Park, much smaller than most parks but still has plenty to offer. If you are here to get to the top of the arch then you are in for a good time. The whole experience if fantastic and the top has some great views. Underneath the arch there is a great museum and plenty of historical artifacts. The park itself is also amazing, has plenty of trees and walking areas. There is a riverfront and pond to walk near as well. Quiet and peaceful overall.
  • What a wonderful experience it was. When we decided to come to see the arch we had know idea what to expect. Absolutely breath taking and the history and meaning behind it is just inspiring. It was a great day from the arrival in the city until we left. This whole experience is something I never imagined and the views from the arch are stunning. After the tour we went to the movie and the museum and it was all fascinating. What a great place and a must see for everyone.
