One of the world's top-rated free-admission animal parks, features both indoor and outdoor exhibits, as well as a children's petting zoo. Divided into themed zones and dedicated to conserving endangered species and their natural habitats, the zoo shelters over 18,000 animals. Get up close and personal with a range of furry and flying creatures by walking around the exhibits on your own, or take a guided tour on the zoo's narrow-gauge railroad for an in-depth look at several habitats. Don't miss the zoo's big cat country, home to lions, leopards, tigers, jaguars, and cougars. The zoo also offers dining and souvenirs at shops and restaurants spread throughout its grounds. We love this zoo! Amazing views (underwater) of seals swimming around, polar bears, etc. We cannot believe this high-quality zoo is free. Well worth visiting while in St. Louis.

Possibly the best zoo in the country. Visit, and you will NOT be disappointed. Free, not so overcrowded you can’t enjoy yourself.

Beautiful zoo! And it is free! They charge for a few of the attractions but they are geared more for smaller kids (Dino, train, petting stingray.) The bird house was one of my favorite exhibits. We also loved the penguin exhibit and how close we were able to get to them. It felt like we entered their habitat, but without disturbing them. Oh, and the Grizzlies! Really, a great zoo.

Love this zoo! Been twice now (I don’t live in St. Louis) and it is such a lovely place to visit. So many happy animals and each species has a well thought out, tailor-made enclosure. An all around great day out for both kids and adults - and admission is free! I particularly enjoyed the primates and the butterflies. The butterflies fly around a beautiful flower filled area and there are literally hundreds of them. You have to check you don’t have one on you when you leave.
