Take in spectacular views of the city from 192 m (630 ft ) in the air atop The Gateway Arch. This "Gateway to the West" is the city's most iconic landmark--and the largest manmade monument in the Western Hemisphere. Examine the structure's stainless-steel architecture and impressive engineering from the banks of the Mississippi River before riding a tram to the top. Don't miss the Museum of Westward Expansion directly under the arch at the visitor center. It’s always a good place to visit and they do have fond memories. We were treated as a child to a big trip into a big city of St Louis. Born in the country a being able to see this as it was being constructed was unbelievable. It’s still pretty amazing when I’m able to travel to go see it. At one time my mom used to drive all the way there once or twice a week so she could be a tour guide. The last time we were in St Louis we were able to go down to the District and we couldn’t believe how high the water level was because of all the flooding. Roads that I remember at the bottom of the arch closer to the river are all gone you could barely see the street lights hanging out of the water . It was a incredible site. A lot of changes have gone on in that area since the arch was construction in 1967. They had to get the area below the arch or salad so it wouldn’t flood. It’s really cool all the history in the museums that are free to the public for you to explore about the entrance to the great west. I WOULD recommend you go have a visit because it does show you a lot of history and how it was constructed. You can even take an elevator to the top and the view is incredible. It is unfortunate that most of the places that I remember, the great restaurants and clubs that have great music are now gone
Great place to visit. Enjoyed walking through the museum and going up in the arch. Great views! Beautiful park to walk through and enjoy the scenery. Very reasonably priced to go up in the arch. Fun family activity. Bypass the ticket line and buy your tickets online. Don't miss this if you are in St. Louis!
