Create an itinerary including Christ Church
A classic white color, relatively small size, and setting among shady oak trees belie the historical and cultural significance of Christ Church. The house of worship has stood here since 1820, lasting through a conversion into a horse stable by Union troops during the Civil War, followed by restoration in 1884. Inside, see the plaques on the pews commemorating visits by U.S. presidents, and view the various stained-glass windows--including the 18th-century one in the back imported from Germany. Outside, visit the cemetery where native St. Simons islanders, including author Eugenia Price, were laid to rest. The church's services are open to visitors, so you can worship here if you'd like. • This historic church is so charming. We visited the day after Easter Sunday and the floral arrangements we stunning. It was wonderful to hear about the history of the church.
  • Stopped on a whim as the Frederick Fort was closed due to hurricane Ian. These grounds are hauntingly lovely. The entire family walked around, two younger boys that didn’t mind. Amazing to see the history and age on some of tombstones (date back to 1700’s). Interesting piece of history in a peaceful setting. We were fortunate to wander around with wild deer that were very friendly. The trees and historic area were a nice stop to check out.
