Salem Public Library, Salem

I've been going to this library since I was a kid. This has always been a fantastic place and the librarians are actually super helpful and lovely. I haven't the slightest idea why several people say that they weren't. Even if they didn't know the answer or about a topic, the resources they can give you are numerous! There has been recent renovation to add much more sitting for quiet reading. Community events happen frequently, and there is a lot of children and family events or activities as well. DVDs are no longer a dollar to rent. They have gotten rid of lots of books, but they are ones that haven't left the shelves for years, and it makes room for newer, more popular publications. I'm pretty sure those books are added to their book sale they put on for several days a year. I think they've done a wonderful job trying to stay relevant and up to date. The parking does require a couple quarters. Everywhere in the downtown vicinity does now, with a couple exceptions. I highly doubt that the librarians are to blame, considering that falls under the City of Salem's jurisdiction.

The atmosphere is quiet allowing a visitor to read in peace. They offer a decent selection of books. I have used their computer center often and making copies of documents is at a reasonable cost. Overall, Salems library is a good experience and the staff are always there to help with any questions one may have, in a polite and friendly manner.
