Witch House is the only original building in the city with a direct connection to the 1692 Salem witch trials. Once the home of Judge Jonathan Corwin, the houses stayed in his family until the mid-19th century. Legend has it that the judge presided on the jury that condemned 19 innocent people to death during the witch trials, but--contrary to popular belief--none of the accused was ever brought to his home. The house and its museum serve as a rare example of 17th-century architecture in the United States. Witch House reviews
Loved the Witch House!! The artifacts are authentic from the 1600s, and the whole house setup is like taking a step back in time! There were 3 of us who came together and we were the only ones there..... more »
I really enjoyed this self guided tour. The history of the house alone is amazing without taking into account the occupants. Walking through the door feels like you have stepped back in time. They... more »
I really enjoyed this museum. Very interesting history and well set up. They have some history on the witch trials, but it is more about about life during that time period, which I feel is appropriate considering this is where one of the judges lived, not actually where anything to do with the trials actually occurred. Well worth the time and money - it doesn’t feel gimmicky like the other witch museums look.
Self guided tour that was fascinating for all! It was very manageable in terms of the information offered and gave us a helpful glimpse into life in the 1600s. We liked that we went to this museum before our walking tour to give us more context. Allow at least 30 minutes for this museum.
