The Joseph Smith Memorial Building, originally called the Hotel Utah, is named in honor of Joseph Smith, the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement. It is located on the corner of Main Street and South Temple in Salt Lake City. It is now a social center with three restaurants: The Roof Restaurant, The Garden Restaurant and The Nauvoo Cafe. It is also a venue for events complete with 13 banquet rooms, catering services, event coordinators and a full-service floral department - Flowers Squared. Several levels of the building also serve as administrative offices for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) departments such as FamilySearch. On January 3, 1978, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places as the Hotel Utah. Our Salt Lake City trip itinerary builder app makes visiting Joseph Smith Memorial Building and other Salt Lake City attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

Took my wife to the roof restaurant for our anniversary and it never disappoints! There's another restaurant across from it. There's rooms available to rent for parties and lots of rich history in the building from the early forefathers who built Utah from the ground up. There's also a family history center named Family tree I believe where you can check on family genealogy. Plenty of people there to help you get information about the Joseph Smith Memorial building!
I have loved this building since I first saw in in 1980 - wandering through it and enjoying the history is always a nice time ... going up stairs for dinner with a view at the Roof - always a treat. Being there at Christmas time - and enjoying the lights - is a touch of heaven. BUT - my favorite thing ... The Giving Machines - You have to go there at Christmas time to understand ... If you have the time ... DO so!!
