Temple Square, Salt Lake City

4.6
Bustling Temple Square is home to a number of tourist attractions, including a large complex owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Family History Library, the largest genealogical library in the world, is a favorite stop. Here, you can delve into your ancestors' past. If you are not a Mormon, you cannot enter the Salt Lake Temple that dominates the square, but you still can explore the grounds and admire the exterior of this striking, 19th-century structure. Pop into the visitor center to see a diorama of the inside of the temple. Learn more about Mormonism at the Church History Museum, home to a large collection of Latter-day Saint artifacts and artwork. Approach a missionary or volunteer docent for a free tour of the square. • You have to appreciate this site for what it is. People came across the western plains to build up their polygamist religion. They worked hard and built a temple so they could keep their wives forever and continue their polygamist lives forever. If you are not a member of this religion you will not see the inside of the temple. You can walk around and enjoy the garden area. It is amazing at Christmas. The church has built a large and spacious mall across the street. They have also built a large and spacious building to hold meetings in. The missionaries are super nice. Sadly, this church is really just like any other mega church now. They seek for money and power over the lives of anyone they can influence. If you are in SLC you have to see this place, just don't forget that, like any other huge church, all of what you see represents a sacrifice by the most humble followers. The money used for this amazing site should have been used to help the poor. Sad.
  • Temple square is amazing! I love going there whenever we are in Salt Lake! The spirit there is incredible, and it's also beautiful! Especially in the spring with all the flowers. Or in the winter with all of the Christmas lights. So basically, you can go there whenever and be happy.
