Developed from a grassroots event in July of 1986, Blue Star Contemporary (BSC) is the first and longest-running nonprofit venue for contemporary art in San Antonio. The establishment of BSC as an exhibition space arose from the need to provide a platform for the work and ideas of local contemporary artists. In the years since its inception, BSC has grown with the community, instigating positive change in both the art community and the community at large with its mission to inspire the creative genius in us all by nurturing artists through innovative contemporary art. In 2016, BSC debuted a major renovation of its 11,000 square foot exhibition space, providing an enhanced presentation platform for artwork of all media.Add Blue Star Contemporary and other attractions to your San Antonio trip itinerary using our San Antonio trip itinerary planner.
Blue Star Contemporary continues to be an incubator for contemporary art in San Antonio as a W.A.G.E-certified organization committed to the fair compensation for creative work that hosts more than twenty exhibitions annually within its four on-site galleries and multiple offsite locations within the community. BSC’s exhibitions feature both emerging and world-renowned artists who hail both from the Alamo City and across the globe. Over 300,000 visitors each year experience contemporary art at BSC through exhibitions, the MOSAIC after-school education program, and community events, which is why Blue Star Contemporary stands firm in its commitment to inspire the creative genius in us all.
Blue Star Contemporary reviews
Great buzz and huge crowd of interesting looking folks brought the various shows alive. Art was very creative and engaging. Lovely to stroll through after dinner more »
Always a fresh new interesting exhibit. The exhibits are curated to develop a theme that is in line with the message the museum is offering. The exibitions are always presented in a way that the gallery patron is entertained but challenged to learn the message the artist is trying to convey. Check the museum's hours before deciding on a visit, the museum is dark during some periods for exhibition installation.
Nice museum. There is a small $5 per person entrance fee. Teachers, students, and military are free. Fun scavenger hunt for kids. Worth going.
