Hike or bike and explore the religious history of San Antonio as you travel past four historic missions that have been nominated as World Heritage Sites. The trail leads you along the San Antonio River Walk through a 13 km (8 mi) stretch of rehabilitated aquatic habitat and woodland to each of the historic Catholic missions founded by Spanish Franciscan priests in the 1700s. Start at Mission Concepción, first dedicated in 1755; it's the oldest stone church in the United States that is fully unrestored yet still intact. From here, you'll move on to Mission San José, the queen of the missions, founded in 1720.   • We really enjoyed the architecture, history and the general grounds here. My children found the most delightful tree there to turn into a full out playground which made for a memorable experience...  more »
  • We took the Gray Line tour to these. It was worth it, as the guide told us lots of things we would never have known ourselves. Get out of downtown and learn some history.  more »
