Hike or bike and explore the religious history of San Antonio as you travel past four historic missions that have been nominated as World Heritage Sites. The trail leads you along the San Antonio River Walk through a 13 km (8 mi) stretch of rehabilitated aquatic habitat and woodland to each of the historic Catholic missions founded by Spanish Franciscan priests in the 1700s. Start at Mission Concepción, first dedicated in 1755; it's the oldest stone church in the United States that is fully unrestored yet still intact. From here, you'll move on to Mission San José, the queen of the missions, founded in 1720. • We were a bit rushed going around these as we ran out of time. The buildings are all different and all beautiful. Worth spending some time visiting these.

  • Had been to some of these before but started on south end this time and worked way north. Lots of history, varied story. Nice trail for biking along the way. A bit busy on weekend but not too bad...
