Originally a private residence, picturesque The Guenther House Museum now serves as a restaurant, store, and museum dedicated to Carl Hilmar (C.H.) Guenther, the founder of a local wheat and corn operation. Inscribed on the National Register of Historic Places, the house celebrates Guenther's life, his immigration from Germany to the U.S., and his skills as a trained millwright, cabinetmaker, and stonemason. The original furniture is preserved, and the residence is available for touring. The restaurant is a popular brunch spot, serving hearty meals on the sunny terrace. The Guenther House Museum reviews
This is a must stop. This historical but still in use set of buildings are interesting. The museum and restaurant are each worth the stop. The gardens on the river are beautiful. more »
We always try to have breakfast here, whenever we visit San Antonio. As always the food and location were outstanding. Due to covid and limited seating, it was going to be a 1.5 hour wait. The host... more »
This was a great place to eat! The prices were low which was very nice considering other areas food options. A 3 stack of pancakes and bacon filled me up, so, yeah they were fluffy and delicious. They had a special blend of coffee that was amazing and recommend it if your going. It was called the founders blend. It had cinnamon, chocolate, and something else, but super good. We had about a 15 min wait, but there was an indoor gift shop and museum area to look at while we waited so we got out of the sun. There was a fan and misted outdoor seating area which looked nice. We were just not up for heat of any sort so opted for inside. However, I am sure that was nice and with the fans meant no bugs so equally great. They have their own parking lot, so no paid parking or street parking which again definitely a plus!
A HUGE wait time! There is the museum to kill some time, and hopefully you're with friends or family to hang out with, as well. The food is good. Not too expensive. I had the Champagne Chicken Enchiladas and they were tasty. Don't dine outside if you fear birds or bees.
