Originally a private residence, picturesque The Guenther House Museum now serves as a restaurant, store, and museum dedicated to Carl Hilmar (C.H.) Guenther, the founder of a local wheat and corn operation. Inscribed on the National Register of Historic Places, the house celebrates Guenther's life, his immigration from Germany to the U.S., and his skills as a trained millwright, cabinetmaker, and stonemason. The original furniture is preserved, and the residence is available for touring. The restaurant is a popular brunch spot, serving hearty meals on the sunny terrace. No stop at this museum is complete without brunch. Plan accordingly. Walk to this beautiful destination along the River Walk. Put your name in for a table - even if only for coffee and something...

The wait time always seems to be long but the grounds are beautiful and free coffee is offered while you wait. There is cornhole to play as well and the restaurant will text you when you’re table is ready so you can leave and come back. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The temperature inside is quite cold. Several patrons left to go grab sweaters from their cars. I just ate fast because it was a little uncomfortable for me. The food was good. It’s not great but it is good and reasonably priced. I believe diners come here for the ambiance more than the food. The grounds are gorgeous and there is a charming gift shop to browse while you wait.

Such a cool place! Lovely historic home and venue on the San Antonio river. Excellent for breakfast - food was delicious. OMG! The biscuits were huge! If you’re staying downtown, it’s about a mile walk via the river or a quick ride share to get there. We rode there and walked the river back - lovely, quiet walk in the mornings. Go when they open or you will be waiting a while - indoor and outdoor seating. Totally worth the wait, though!
