Overlooking the bay and the city from one side and the ocean from the other, Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery serves as the final resting place for the men and women who spent their lives serving their country. Erected on the site of a former artillery station, this historical landmark features endless rows of somber, white marble headstones. Walk through the grounds, where the tranquil atmosphere and scenic views inspire contemplation. You can also see bronze and granite memorials honoring soldiers all the way back to the Mexican-American War. Every time that I visit here, I am taken back and experience an extreme level of gratitude, satisfaction, and an unspeakable amount of appreciation for those who are that have gone before me who have paid the ultimate price for my freedom. I also am incredibly grateful for the families of those that have served the support of them that cared for them that helped them fulfill their assignment to protect honor, revere, and defend freedom. This particular national cemetery is on some of the best real estates in the United States. I am grateful that our government used this property as a cemetery instead of developing it. From this particular site in the evenings, if you arrive about a half-hour before sunset, you’ll experience one of the most magnificent sunsets you could find anywhere.
