  • Beautiful park. Stayed 2 nights in October. Nice, level, pull-thru sites for big rigs. Spacious camping sites with grass. Lots of hiking trails. The weather was beautiful. Quiet area. The park was...

  • This is a pretty good state park for being so close to Houston. There's probably a little less activities than some of the larger parks (IE, no where to swim), but it's pretty great for being so close to Houston. We went on a hike, and some of the trails were closed. Not sure if that was because they were flooded out or something though. Most of the trails are pretty easy walks. We went with two kids (3 and 5), and there was no issues. We did make our way to the river, and that's a cool site to see. We drove by the tent camping spots, and this is the main reason I gave it a 4. Those spots are pretty close to each other. Not really any camping privacy. Update: if you want to camp, be I would recommend the "walk in" tent camping spots (near the group camping). There's no showers (bathrooms only), but the slots are more secluded and quiet in the evenings. All the other spots seemed to be right on top of each other while we walked around (took cub scouts on some hikes).
  • Less than 30 minutes from Houston. It's small, quiet, but very nice! The trails are shorter, easier than most. This park is perfect when you want to go to a state park, but not travel far and don't feel like changing into some traditional hiking gear. Get up, go do a light hike, enjoy nature and company, then go home when you get your fix.
