Preparing what is now known as "Original San Francisco Sourdough French Bread," Isidore Boudin opened Boudin at the Wharf in 1849. The master baker developed the sourdough recipe by combining his family's French baking techniques with a Gold Rush miner's bread recipe. You can pick up a fresh loaf at the original store in the Richmond District on 10th Street or at Fisherman's Wharf. The wharf location features a demonstration bakery with a glass wall that gives you a view into the magic behind the bread. An interactive museum exhibit shares details about the bakery's past.
