Glen Canyon Park is a city park in San Francisco, California. It occupies about 70acre along a deep canyon adjacent to the Glen Park, Diamond Heights, and Miraloma Park neighborhoods. O’Shaughnessy Hollow is a rugged, undeveloped 3.6acre tract of parkland that lies immediately to the west and may be considered an extension of Glen Canyon Park. The park and hollow offer an experience of San Francisco's diverse terrains as they appeared before the intense development of the region in the late 19th and the 20th centuries. The park incorporates free-flowing Islais Creek and the associated riparian habitat, an extensive grassland with adjoining trees that supports breeding pairs of red-tailed hawks and great horned owls, striking rock outcrops, and arid patches covered by "coastal scrub" plant communities. In all, about 63acre of the park and hollow are designated as undeveloped Natural Area. Elevations in Glen Canyon Park range from approximately 225 feet (69 m) above sea level at the south end of the park to 575 feet (175 m) above sea level at the north end and along the eastern rim of the canyon; the walls of the canyon are extremely steep, with many slopes approaching a length-to-height ratio of 1:1 (100 percent). It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Glen Canyon Park and many more San Francisco attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's San Francisco road trip planning site.
Glen Canyon Park Reviews
This park is so beautiful! Nice place for children, a good playground. Besides a baseball field that people can seat or play ball or freebies. Also a nice hike in the "canyons". Worth to visit! more »
Well marked trail, very shady and cool. Beautiful waterfalls abound. Coastal redwoods and smaller trees. I didn't make it to the top, but had a lovely afternoon. more »
Just a great park. Always here for the tennis courts and hiking with my dog in the canyon. There's also a rec center and soccer field. The hiking trails are really pretty, with little hidden things to look out for like tiny fairy houses in tree trunks. Parking is a little tricky.
Great park for a quick hike/jog or dog walk. Lots of native plants and rocky outcroppings and a creek, nice microclimate in the canyon, you can see the fog breaking up over your head while you're in the sun. Well maintained trail system with a lot of stairs to keep the heart pumping. Baseball diamond, playground and tennis courts at southern end of park, after school and summer programs for kids. Probably my favorite park in the city. Several entrances from the surrounding neighborhoods.
