Grace Cathedral, San Francisco

See a church famous for its mosaics, labyrinths, stained-glass windows, and both medieval and contemporary furnishings when you visit Grace Cathedral. As you approach the towering cathedral, be sure to walk the first labyrinth before making your way to the doors. Before you enter, note that the doors are a famed replica of Ghiberti’s Gates of Paradise. Once inside, you can walk the second labyrinth, or wander through the cathedral to admire the murals by De Rosen and the 66 stained-glass windows created by a variety of artists. If you time it right, you may be able to hear the 44-bell carillon, three organs, or one of the men's and boys' choirs. Stop by the shop for prayer books, music, and gifts, or grab a drink from the downstairs coffee shop. To take a tour, it's best to sign up in advance.
