The Hidden Garden Steps is a dynamic community project in partnership with the San Francisco Parks Trust and the Department of Public Works Street Parks Program to create mosaic steps, a public garden, and a wall mural located on the 16th Avenue steps between Kirkham and Lawton St.

The project is inspired by the magnificent Moraga Mosaic Steps.

Artists Colette Crutcher and Aileen Barr have created a lush mosaic design where butterflies flutter, salamanders slither, and Indian Paint Brush, and poppies climb flights of 148 stairs.

  • Lovely stairs. Enjoyed the walk up. Very close to the other mosaic stairs so see both! Doesn't take long and totally worth it.  more »
  • Went to the Botantic Garden and took a walk to the steps. Really was a good day. On the way to the steps there were several food options. I had Mexican food.  more »
  • Amazing hidden spot! Must see and super mysterious while there is fog. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a small workout and an amazing view of the city. The fog will be there but its okay, really great place to get away from everything.
  • Beautiful steps and surrounding (small) gardens. Sort of a hidden gem in the city. Be ready for a small climb (wear appropriate shoes). Best when not foggy - which can be rare. The park at the top is small but has amazing views
