Walt Disney Family Museum, San Francisco

4.6
Walt Disney Family Museum presents the life, work, and legacy of Walt Disney, from his early childhood until today. In a 4,000 sq m (43,000 sq ft) space, using old and new technology, the family's collection showcases drawings, animations, movies, and music. In the lobby are 248 awards Disney earned, among which are the Presidential Medal of Freedom--the highest civilian award of the United States--and the Oscar for the movie "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves." See the 3.7 m (12 ft) in diameter model of Disneyland, and watch Disney classics in the "Fantasia"-inspired digital theater. Make sure you have some energy left for the Disneyland exhibit at the end. • If you enjoy Disneyland, you'll love this museum! Wonderful history, amazing sights, and thoughtful displays. We spent 2+ hours there but probably could have spent 3-4 hours if we really wanted to. Wa...  more »

  • Incredible. A must-visit, even for casual Disney fans. Allow a minimum of 3 hours. There are some hands on activities for adults and kids. I suspect children under age 8 will get bored quickly. It is very much a historical look at the life of Walt Disney, from his youth to his death. Very clean, well kept, and an extremely friendly staff. In addition to the museum, they have a deli, as well as a souvenir store. A fascinating look at the life and accomplishments of Walt Disney.
  • Current exhibit of Nine Old Men is an excellent walk back through decades of Disney Studios' artistry and imagination. Please note that the museum is primarily the history of Walt Disney and Disney Studios. It's fascinating and well organized, but not really a place for small children expecting to see their favorite characters. For anyone interested in the history of animation and animation as an art form, it's great!
