  • We started at the parking lot around Picket Lane and Cattle point road. The trails are not very well marked. We hiked to the light house and back about 4.5 miles. Moderate in a few spots. Mostly...

  • Summer season started a week after we go there. That meant that the hop on and hop off bus and local community bus had fewer trips around the island. Since we didn't have our own car or bikes...

  • This park is not just a "one stop" location. It covers a large area of the island, mostly on the southern point. There are trails, beaches, cliffs, water views, a light house and the old forts. All located within an easy drive of each other. So plan on spending a day exploring them all as I did. If you want to camp, options are limited. San Juan county park is the main option with limited spaces that fill up quickly so plan accordingly. Another note, the ferries are currently experiencing boat and personnel shortages so ferries are not necessarily on time and are also frequently cancelled. Patience and flexibility are a must! You can (must) reserve your spot for the ferry but know that even that is not a guarantee.
  • A two part national historic site. The American camp is prairies and lots of walking trails with views. English camp is smaller. Not manned. Not as visited. View is of a bay.
