See rare and endangered species and take part in various animal-oriented activities at Santa Barbara Zoo. The zoo features more than 400 animals--from insects to large mammals--and gives the visitors a chance to learn about the wildlife, admire rarely seen and endangered species, and interact with some of its residents. Animal habitats are recreated to mimic each animal's natural surroundings. View species from all over the world, such as Asian elephants and Western lowland gorillas, as well as local animals, such as the California condor. Santa Barbara Zoo Reviews
I’ve been going to this zoo for as long as I can remember. I’ve always loved it. It’s a smaller zoo but is absolutely worth the trip. Absolutely can spend an entire afternoon for most people, or longe... more »
Our family was in Santa Barbara for my husband's birthday. We went to the zoo for a fun activity with our four adult kids and our four grandsons, ages 9, 7, 5, and 2. This is not a giant, every animal... more »
This is such a nice, small zoo. You can easily see everything in a few hours. The train is a nice little tour around but costs extra. There is food available, but it's overpriced. Easier to just bring your own. Food and picnic in one of the many beautiful areas if the zoo. There's a fun playground for the kids with a sliding hill (slide with a piece of cardboard). Warning: it's hard to get the kids to leave!
For a smaller zoo this place is fantastic. The animals all seem very healthy and happy. The staff is very friendly and also attentive to your questions. The giraffe feeding experience is so neat and informative. The train ride is so much fun for the little ones. The inside park is a must stop and plan to spend some time there because the little ones love the grass slope slide as well as the entertainment arena next to the park. They also recently updated the Gorilla interaction area that is very fun for children 5 and up.
