Check out the sea lions that hang out underneath Santa Cruz Wharf, cast a fishing line into the water, and dine on local seafood. Whale-watching and fishing expeditions depart from here too, and you can rent a kayak to get out on the water under your own power. If you arrive in late afternoon, bring your camera and wait for the sun to set behind the lighthouse. • Fun place to see sea otters and sea lions. Very charming and some good seafood restaurants at the end of the pier. It gets chilly at night so bring a coat or sweater. The sunsets are awesome. Travel North a bit to see the Big Basin State Park for incredible views of redwoods. Oh yeah, ice cream at the end of the pier. Good stuff.
  • 3.5 Stars. Parking is easy and cheap for quick visits. The sea lions are a fun, "must-see" California experience, and the views are incredible. We only had issue with the restroom facilities and the cleanliness of the areas outside the restaurants. Both made us uncomfortable and nervous about spending more time there.
