Ca d'Zan, Sarasota

#2 of 6 in Historic Sites in Sarasota
Historic Site · Tourist Spot
In 1924, the circus king John Ringling set out to build Ca d'Zan as a palace fit for a man of his status. Completed in 1926 and situated at the Sarasota waterfront, the mansion stands as the symbol of the Roaring Twenties, and John Ringling’s rise from a humble background to the very top of the social ladder. The design is inspired by Doge’s Palace in Venice, and captures John’s and his wife Mable’s love for the city. The couple spared no expenses to fit their house with fine furniture and artwork, as well as materials such as mahogany, rosewood, and kingwood. Handpicked American and European artists created murals, plaster and marble decorations. After decades of neglect, in 2002 the mansion was restored back to its full splendor. An admission to the Ringling Museum of Art also includes a quick tour of the mansion’s first floor, while additional fee is required for a detailed tour of the house. • me and my mom, my aunt and cousin-in-law went to the absolutely gorgeous mansion. enjoyed the patio, Mabel's Garden both of the circus museums and the Art Museum. I would come again. I have to bring my friend from Arizona. I know he will enjoy it. the art museum is free on Mondays but the rest of the Museum's i believe it will cost about 25 to 45 dollars what you want but it worth it. Before I forget wear comfortable shoes wear sunblock maybe bring your own lunch and a camera if you wish.
  • I absolutely loved this place in Sarasota although I feel that it is not advertised enough for people to visit it. Beautiful, unique grounds you can walk around. The Rose garden is amazing, the secret garden and the Banyan trees. A lot of outdoor sculptures and the Ca' d'Zan it is a true piece of art. The museum of art is amazing (we spent over 3 hours just there). I visited in Jun and the Circus museum was closed for renovation, but I will definitely be back for it when opens. This is a MUST visit location in Florida.
